Editorial policy

Car problems can be a safety issue, so we hold every article to the same rules.

How we research

  • Repair cost ranges come from at least two sources and are dated, because prices change.
  • Technical claims are checked against manufacturer information, owner's manuals and established repair references.
  • Every article lists its sources and shows the date it was last reviewed.

Safety first

  • Every article about brakes, steering, tires, overheating or fuel leaks says plainly when to stop driving.
  • We never give DIY steps for jobs that need lifting gear, airbags, high-voltage electric car systems or fuel lines without a clear warning that it's a garage job.
  • Our articles are general information. They don't replace an inspection by a qualified mechanic.

Keeping articles up to date

We review articles regularly and update the "last reviewed" date when we do. If you spot a mistake, please tell us and we'll correct it.
